It’s always a sweet time to be a tourist in your own town. Get out and make the most of your staycation by discovering what Byron, Georgia has to offer.

Take Byron’s self-guided driving/walking tour to learn more about the vintage houses and downtown businesses that you pass every day. Stop in at the Byron Train Depot for a photo opportunity at the restored caboose, or call ahead to explore the history of Byron in the museum there (478) 918-3666. While you’re in the museum mood, head to Warner Robins, Georgia to experience the awe you will feel at the 93 historical aircraft on display at the second largest Air Force Museum in the country, the Museum of Aviation.

Plan a picnic at North Peach Park in Byron, or the Jailhouse Park. Hike the trails at North Peach Park while the kids go wild at the playground.

Go on a tasting tour of Georgia wines, starting at Georgia Bob’s Uncorked right here in Byron. The tasting room will introduce you to a variety of excellent Georgia wines: reds, whites, dry, sweet. You can also browse and take home a wonderfully curated selection of Georgia Grown jams, jellies, syrups, and more. Then, about halfway between neighboring Warner Robins and Perry, Georgia, and 20 minutes from Byron, enjoy a tasting of organic Georgia wines at Tilford Winery & Farms in Kathleen, Georgia.

From your home in Byron, you can conveniently explore all of Middle Georgia. Stroll the paths at Massee Lane Gardens in Fort Valley, where you’ll be surrounded by more than 1,000 varieties of camellias and other blooms. Taste the peach ice cream at Lane Southern Orchards or Pearson Farm for a cool treat, and visit the peach packing houses at either location, in season.

Take an educational journey through Georgia’s watersheds at the Go Fish Education Center in Perry to learn about Georgia’s diverse aquatic wildlife, their natural habitats and the impacts of water pollution. Catch fish in the stocked pond, and try out the interactive fishing and boating simulators.

Turn your eyes north to Macon, Georgia to discover the sweetness of soul, from the Otis Redding Mini-Museum to The Allman Brothers Band Museum at The Big House to the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, and so much more.
